Virginia Harmon - Born January 1, 1926, to Hazel and Arthur Rosenow - she was honored as being the first baby born that year at Delray General Hospital. She graduated from Western High School, Detroit, January 1944. Her work career included being a secretary for several years at Selfridge Air Force Base, later a clerk with Sears Robuck, but when it was time to start a family, she was a homemaker and avid volunteer with the school system.
After the kids graduated, she became a very active member at Allen Park Presbyterian Church. From her in evolvement with Mission Sewing and Sarah Circle to publishing the Presbyterian Woman News Letter for several years. On Sunday morning 11:00 am all knew what pew she would be sitting in.
To her family she was the most loving and unselfish mother, wife, grandma any of us could ask for. Her positive attitude and loving thankful spirit were hallmarks of her personality. She always made people feel welcomed, she touched so many people throughout her life, from being the PTA President at Riley School, to greeting new residents at Beaumont Commons, she always wanted to introduce the folks around her to each other.
Holidays and birthdays were always special family times shared. She made each of us feel special on our birthday by making our favorite foods and dessert. After dishes were done (by hand - mom didn't have a dishwasher until she moved to Beaumont Commons) - then came the board games and card games (pinochle was her favorite) - at times pretty competitive, but in the end it was all laughs.
Virginia did not live an extravagant lifestyle, was a bit on the quiet side, but everyone she touched felt her genuine love, compassion and kindness. If she met you once, she would always remember your name and a tidbit of information about you and your family. She truly was a beautiful person inside and out.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Sarge), son Dale and granddaughter Stephanie.
Virginia leaves behind her children Greg (Cynthia), Alan (Shirley) and Gwen. Grandchildren, Valerie (Matt) Riley, Lauren (Richard) Rudeen, Reverend Bre Ryan, Derek Harmon, Dr. Dustin (Dr. Victoria Facchini) Harmon, Christopher (Sarah) Harmon. Great grandchildren - Daniel, James and Jack Ryan, Evelyn and Joshua Riley, Kolsen and Collins Rudeen. Her sister Mary Jane (Dr. Donald) Maypole and many nieces and nephews.
