Virginia A. Gurzick

Age 95. She was born January 10, 1917 at home in Detroit, MI to parents William and Stella Karasch. Virginia is the oldest of seven children. She attended a one room schoolhouse in New Haven, where she stoked the potbelly stove every cold winter morning before school started. On June 30, 1934, Virginia married Thomas Robert Gurzick. The couple had three children; two daughters and one son. They also had four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. For thirteen years, Virginia and Thomas ran a Texaco gas station in New Haven. In 1952 they moved to Detroit. They made Allen Park their final home in 1967. Virginia had been an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Church for years. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and sewing. Since moving to Mapel Heights, she enjoyed attending weekly Catholic Mass, wii bowling, exercise class and visiting all her friends. She is survived by her daughter Diana (Marvin) Levenson. Visitation will be Tuesday 5 - 8 pm at Weise Funeral Home, 7210 Park Ave., Allen Park (313 382-1150). In State Wednesday 12:30 pm until time of Mass 1:00 pm at St. Frances Cabrini Church 9000 Laurence (at Wick), Allen Park. Interment Our Lady of Hope Cemetery.
