Sheila Ann Leverton, wife, mother and friend to so many, passed away peacefully in her home on September 25th, 2023 at the age of 78. Sheila was born April 27, 1945 and raised in Allen Park, MI as an only child by her loving parents, Othie and Louis Long. She graduated from Allen Park High School in 1962, University of Detroit and shortly after began her long career in a dental office, both as a dental assistant and office manager. She married Bill Leverton in 1967 and loved raising her two boys, John (Beth) of Northville and Jeff (Krista) of Dansville. Her grandkids (and grand dogs!) were her treasures- Brady, Sybella, Cooper and Delaney and certainly some of her most special times with them were while at the lake. Sheila is also survived by a brother/sister in law, Robert and Theresa Leverton of Canton and their family, as well as cousins and extended family. Many of her favorite days were spent on her hobbies and favorite past times…quilting, cross-stitch, puzzling, cards and board games, basket creating and collecting, going to garage sales, volunteering and participating in Disney events and clubs. She cherished her Allen Park Presbyterian Church family, swim club, card club, camping and cruising with friends, and her time spent in Allen Park, Dragon Lake, and in Florida- both Largo and The Villages. She had strong and loving communities in all the places she called home. When Sheila fell ill to a stroke and heart failure in early September, both the hospital and her new place in Plymouth said they “had never seen a woman so loved, with droves of visitors and stacks of get well cards”.
As an example, one of her life-long friends, Judy Martin, was at her bedside for her last breath. Shortly after her passing, a Blue Jay as beautiful as her eyes was visiting her window. Blue jays are fiercely loyal- as was she- and often associated with protectiveness and family. We know she will be watching over her family and friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life for both Bill and Sheila (who passed 12 weeks apart) at Allen Park Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 23rd date at 6 pm, a service followed by refreshments in the church parlor. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Allen Park Presbyterian Church, Camp Wakanda Fund in Bill and Sheila’s name.
