Ruth Lawson

July 18, 1929 — May 19, 2021

Age 91, May 19, 2021.  Beloved wife of the late William.  Loving mother of Richard (Late Caren) Lawson, Janis Lawson and Sandy (Sal) Palumbo.  Dear grandmother of Heather (Roddy), Becky (Bill), Tim (Kami), Amy (Justin), Chrissy (Steve), Lisa (Brad), Taylor, Billy (Justine) and Paula.  Great grandmother of Lucas, Averi, Grant, Gabby, Timmy, Kaylee, Leland, Kaden, Lexi, Jordyn, Cameron, Cooper and Teagan. Dear sister of Shirley Lane.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ruth arrived into this world on July 18, 1929 to parents John and Helen (Morris) Manco.  She was born in a two story flat in East Dearborn.  Her parents purchased a home on Michigan Ave. and had it moved to Morley Ave. and Oakwood Blvd.  She was the middle child, with an older sister Marie and a younger sister Shirley.

She attended Dearborn Public Schools where she met her future husband, Bill in the seventh grade.  She excelled at tennis and field hockey and was part of many school clubs.  After graduating from High School, she attended Virginia Farrell School of Cosmetology where she received her license to become a hairdresser.  She worked at the Book Cadillac in Downtown Detroit where she had the opportunity to do Sarah Churchill’s hair.  She married William (Bill) Lawson on June 24, 1950.  Soon after, Bill enlisted into the Navy and she had the opportunity to join him in Panama.  On their return, they welcomed their first child, Richard into the family.  Soon after followed Janis and Sandra.

Ruth and Bill joined St. Frances Cabrini Church in Allen Park in the 1950’s where she became involved in the St. Frances Cabrini Christian Women – St. Gerard Guild.  She had remained a member until the time of her passing.  Her last accomplishment with the group was making 189 Plarn mats for the homeless.  She was also involved with the sewing group.  Ruth attended mass during the week and then on Saturday.  They had their little click there, as she would say.

Ruth was also involved in Child Study Group and The Pathfinders while she was raising her children.  Ruth was one of the co-founders of the Allen Park Late Bloomers Garden Club where she was one of the first President’s and a lifelong member.  The group celebrated 30 years last year.  She loved to keep her house looking nice and always had a beautiful flower garden.   At Christmas, she was known for having a window full of nutcrackers.

Ruth had many acquaintances throughout Allen Park and held a spot on the Allen Park Beautification Committee.  Wherever she went, she always knew someone.

Ruth’s greatest gift were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was called Gram, Grandma, and Grammie.  She was always up for a game of War when the great grandchildren were around.  She loved being entertained by them.

She had her moments and her family had theirs, but in the end, it was the love that kept everyone together.  She will be missed.

In State Tuesday 11:30 am until time of Mass 12 noon at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 9000 Laurence, Allen Park, MI  48101.

Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI

God's Garden

God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this Earth,
and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you and
Lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered "Peace be thine."

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
