In Celebration of Russell Glywin Strohm.

Russ was born July 11, 1951 in Royal Oak, Michigan. He had a lackluster childhood. A survivor of trauma and abuse, but God had many blessings planned for him.

He graduated in 1969 from Taylor Center High School. He loved cars and found his niche with auto repairs, eventually focusing on heavy duty truck repair.

July 22, 1971, Russ married his high school sweetheart Cheri. He actively pursued her with marriage in mind. She wasn't on board at first but he wore her down.

They had three children Jon, Kelly, and Jaime and three grandchildren, Sophia, the munchkin, Ethan and Jonathan.

To say that Russ loved his food is an understatement. He had a deep appreciation for food. All kinds, including hot dogs, baked beans, sauerkraut and polish sausage, macaroni and cheese, pizza, the list goes on. Sandwiches and omelettes were his specialty. Swiss cheese, provolone, ham and turkey, lightly toasted bagel. Or omelettes dripping with cheese and ham. At dinner, he would always say three things, "Cheri this is the best you've ever made!" followed by "oh, I ate too much!" and "next time make more!"

He also loved his sweets. Candy bars, cookies, cakes, ice cream. He never met a carb he didn't like.
At Christmas, his beloved mother in law Cede  would make two Pineapple Graham Cracker Cakes, one just for him and the other was to be shared. During the early years of their marriage, Cheri would make him a cake every week and buy him a carton of ice cream and Russ would eat all of it. She bought it just for him. Cede, his mother in law said she was never fat until he came along. All the pizza and taco bell and the pork barbecue sandwiches with Cole slaw. She introduced those to him.

He waited all day for the holiday turkeys to come out of the oven. The ham, deviled eggs, and black olives by the jar. He would eat it all.

Russ had a deep love and respect for his inlaws. Jimmy and Cede Engle and they loved him like a son. When Cheri and Russ lost their son, Kelly it was Cede that went with Russ to help find something for the burial and it was his brother in law, Greg who helped him with the specific paperwork. Jimmy would say, you can do it Russ when they were working together. They all worked together, Russ and his two brother in laws Tim and Greg worked. Carpentry, roofing, construction and Russ learned a lot and called them his family. That extended to his in laws in West Virginia. He called them his family in West Virginia. He also inherited two Grandmother's, Grammer Maddy and Grandma Engle and both thought he was the cat's pajamas.

In the year 2000, Russ lost his mother and father in law six months apart. He was with them to end, helping to ease their final days through Hospice.

Russ was a hard worker and would work every day. Bragging about how many steps he had gotten. Beating the rest of us by thousands of steps. He earned a Fitbit badge, declaring he had walked enough steps to walk across New Zealand. One his coworkers didn't realize he was in 70's. He loved that. He was spry and peppy.

Summer time, he was always outside. He like buying flowers to plant and he liked to garden.  He waited all Summer for his Beefsteak tomatoes. He ate bacon and tomato sandwiches all Summer.

He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. Going to Greenfield Village with Sophia and Jaime. The movies and Target. He was a shopper.

He was also a kleptomaniac. He hung on to pens, coins, and if you liked a certain dish or coffee mug, he would claim it as his own.

Russ loved his animals. The dogs but especially his kitty cats. Mad Molly in particular. During the earlier years, he didn't like the hamsters. He wouldn't touch them. If they got out of the cage, someone else had to pick it up.

Russ had so many wonderful qualities. God loved Russ very much as he didn't suffer. We said goodbye to Russ on May 08, 2024.
