Our beautiful dear Mother, Rose Virginia Gass, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2020 at the age of 93. She had a blessed and wonderful life filled with family, friends and lots of love. Born on February 20, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of Frank and Rose Mendrysa. Rose graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1945. On May 21, 1946, Rose married Harold Gass from River Rouge, Michigan. During their time together they lived in Lincoln Park, Dearborn, Allen Park and Southgate, Michigan.
Rose and Harold raised six children. One of their many accomplishments as parents were sending all their children through 12 years of Catholic education at St Frances Cabrini. Since then, the family has grown to 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren with two more on the way. Rose adored and loved her family more than life itself. She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the joy in her life.
Whether it was playing games/cards, puzzles, dancing, going up north, telling stories or simply visiting and laughing, Rose always liked to have fun! She even learned to drive a snowmobile at age 76. She was an excellent cook and everyone was happy when she made their favorite recipe. The Gass family has always remained close because of her. Her unconditional love and great sense of humor will certainly be missed.
The bedrock of Rose’s life was her faith in the Lord. She firmly believed that being of service to her family was doing the Lord’s work. She attended St. Franc e s Cabrini Catholic Church in Allen Park throughout most of her life. When time allowed, she was able to attend Mass daily for the last 35 years.
Our mom was taken to ER on March 23, 2020. During these unprecedented times we weren’t sure if she would be released. It was by the grace of God she came home and was admitted to hospice where she was cared for by her children. She really enjoyed these last several months at home with patio/window visitors and loving phone calls. She was also able to enjoy some of her favorite foods and treats. She passed away surrounded by her loving family and we are so thankful to the good Lord for that blessing.
Preceding Rose in heaven are her parents, husband, three brothers, and her sisters-in-law (Frank & Ann, Eddie & Rena, Johnny & Esther.) She will be forever cherished by her children and their spouses, Sandra Gass of Southgate, Daniel Gass of Fort Myers Beach, FL, Mary (George) Vrabel of Allen Park, Deborah (Joe) Romo of Trenton, Theresa (Geno) Vacca of New Boston, and Margaret (Rick) Bargardi of Grosse Ile. Rose will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, great grandchildren her nieces, nephews and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Please say a rosary in memory of our Mother as she was very devoted to the Blessed Mother.
If Roses Grow in Heaven
If roses grow in Heaven Lord
Please pick a bunch for me
Place them in my Mom’s arms
And tell her they’re from me
Tell her that I love and miss her
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold her for awhile
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
But there’s an ache within my heart
That will never go away
