It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Roger Carl Mahanic. Roger touched so many people in his (almost) 73 years. He traveled to 6 continents, visited 60+ countries, had a career with US Customs that spanned 32 years, had deep and long lasting friendships and truly valued the spirit of adventure.
Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1952 to James and Marylou Mahanic, Roger grew up 2nd eldest of 5 boys in Lincoln Park, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan, graduated in 1974 with a bachelor’s in general studies, greatly contributing to his skills in pub trivia over the years. In 1979, Roger joined US Customs and there he found his life’s work, ultimately working as an intelligence analyst and retiring in 2010. Retirement reintroduced Roger and Linda to their passion for exotic travel, and in the 15 years since leaving Customs, the 2 of them went on countless adventures.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Linda, his children Nicholas (Amanda) and Kathryn (Michael), his grandchildren Brooks and Poppy, his brother James, and many nieces and nephews.
Services honoring the wonderful life of Roger will be held on Saturday, January 25th at Weise Funeral Home at 7210 Park Ave, Allen Park, MI. There will be a visitation from 2:00 - 5:00PM with a service and eulogy starting at 4:30.
