Roger A. Doty

Age 84, June 23, 2015. Beloved husband of Audrey. Loving father of Denise (Jean Charles) Bou, Sean Doty and Scott (Melissa) Doty. Dear grandfather of Brian Doty, Mike Doty, Corinne Bou, Emmanuel Bou, David Doty, Jillian Doty, Jack Doty and Megan Doty. Also survived by a special family friend Janet Nunez Doty. Roger grew up in Wyandotte and was very active in sports at Roosevelt High School. He graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1947 and joined the U.S. Air Force in December of 1950. In November of 1954 Roger married Audrey Westphal and returned to Eastern Michigan University under the G.I. Bill, where he earned both a bachelors and masters degree in education. In January of 1958 he began his lifelong teaching career at Melvindale High School. Initially Roger taught math and science but he soon developed a full electronics program that covered both electrical theory and practical uses. Roger is a past president of the Melvindale/Allen Park Federation of Teachers and was an elder in both the Ecorse and Allen Park Presbyterian Churches. In retirement he was a member of the VFW Post 5572 and an avid member of the Toledo Sailplane League. Roger will be cremated and private services will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly MI where he will receive full Military Honors.
