Marino Andreas Manolis – Age 68 –Born to the late Andreas and Anna (Militisi) Manolis in Crete, Greece on April 18, 1955. Was called to be with the Lord on August 12, 2023. He always took care of everyone. The best depiction used to describe him since his sudden passing; he was a man of few words, but he made an unforgettable impact on everyone he met.
Marino and his family immigrated to America from Greece when he was barely a teenager. He graduated from Ecorse High School in 1973 and began working as a painter. He would meet the love of his life, Ruth Workman, in 1980 in Muskegon, Michigan where he was vacationing that summer. They fell instantly in love and married on April 17, 1982, and were devoted soulmates for 41 years. He became an instant father to Ruth’s son, Ryan, and later that year they were blessed with a daughter, Alethea. In 1984 and 1992, they would be blessed with 2 more sons, Andreas and Marino Anthony, into their lives.
He adored his family and the friends he made into family throughout his lifetime. He worked so that his family would want for nothing. He had a fascination with old Schwinn bikes and classic American muscle cars. He collected and loved many of those throughout the years. He could never sit still, always had to be working or doing something. He was a brilliant man, graduating with special achievements from the National Institute of Technology in 1987 and working for Ford Motor Co. for 30 years alongside his father until he retired. Something he was very proud of.
He was also a cancer survivor and continued to be a tireless caretaker to all those around. Would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Through the years he grew interest in many creative areas, becoming a magician and entertainer when the kids were young and taking different art classes at the community college, always trying to learn a new way to express himself. He loved taking his family to cruise the car shows all over the Detroit area in his collector cars ‘Gidget’ and ‘Marilyn’, teaching his children and grandchildren to appreciate all the good times. He and Ruth were beyond blessed and loved every second they had with their beautiful 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren as well.
Marino was a devoted husband, beloved father, papou, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved without measure. He asked for so little, but gave so very much. Those special memories of him will always bring a smile. If only we could have him back for just a little while. Then we could sit and talk again, just like we used to do. He will always mean so very much and always will too. The fact that he’s no longer here will always cause us pain, but he’s forever in our hearts until we meet again.
Marino is survived by: his loving wife Ruth (Workman) Manolis; his children: Ryan (Dodge), Alethea, Andreas and Marino Anthony Manolis; his grandchildren: Amanda (Dudek), Kali, Samantha, Ryan Jr., and Dani (Dodge), Alexandria and Lukas (Manolis), Olivia and Liam (McCoy). Marino is also survived by his sister Anastasia (Eleftherios) Paravas, his brother John (Maria) Manolis and sister Eleni (Stavros) Bogiatzian. He was preceded in death by his parents Andreas and Anna Manolis and his brothers-in-law Eleftherios (Anastasia) Paravas and Stavros (Eleni) Bogiatzian. Also survived by Mother-in-law Beverly Workman and sister-in-law Pam (Bruce) Inch and brother-in-law Tim Workman. Marino will be laid to rest with his parents in Michigan Memorial Cemetery.
