Marie Z. Leavey

Marie was born in Detroit to Zetta Elizabeth (Martin) Brancheau and Clarence Henry Brancheau. She was the oldest of four children. Marie lived with her family in Detroit and attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing after finishing high school. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1932. She began working as a contagion nurse at Herman Kiefer Hospital . She later went on to work for the Detroit Department of Health as a traveling nurse and traveled all over the city visiting patients with her wired-hair terrier Nipper. After working for many years as an office nurse, she took a position in the Emergency Room at Wyandotte Hospital .
Marie loved to travel. She toured the Holy Land , Africa , Europe , the Caribbean Islands , the Bahamas , and every state in the U.S. excepting Alaska and Alabama . Her interests were many. She loved to fish and to collect stamps, and enjoyed going to rock and mineral expositions. She played the piano, and couldn't resist regaling everyone with stories of her life. Her interest in genealogy led her to trace the lineage of her family back to King Charles I of France . She loved her family. She loved life.
Marie was married for 38 years to Marvin T. Leavey, and they raised three children together. Marie is survived by her children Pat Laws, Mike Leavey, and Ann Marie Fielder, her grandchildren Mark Nadzam, Sue Clark, Victoria Ruth, Kate Schneider, Alice Fielder, and Paul Fielder, and her great-grandchildren Amber Oakes, Lindsey Clark, Kyrin Ruth , Jordan Ruth, Evan Ruth, Brendan Ruth, Lorien Ruth, and Evelyn Schneider. She will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known and loved her. Funeral services Monday 10:30 am from the Weise Funeral Home followed by 11:00 am Mass at St. Frances Cabrini Church 9000 Laurence (At Wick), Allen Park. Interment Our Lady of Hope Cemetery. Visitation Saturday 5 - 8 pm and Sunday 12 – 8 pm. Rosary Sunday 5:00 pm.
