M. Cecilia Caulfield

December 7, 1922 — November 10, 2024

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Cecilia Caulfield, on November 10, 2024.

Mary Cecilia Riney was born in December 1922 to Edward and Cecilia Riney of River Rouge. Ceal, as she was called, was the third daughter in the Irish Catholic family.  They belonged to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and ten children attended OLL schools. After high school, Ceal worked at Timken Company where she met the love of her life, Richard T. (Dick) Caulfield, before he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served in WWII. Upon his return home, Ceal and Dick were married and bought a home in Allen Park. They had a loving marriage devoted to each other and to raising their five children, instilling in them faith and family values by their example. They worked hard and when they relaxed it was at their cottage on Davison Lake. Most weekends were spent sailing, playing badminton and cards with family and friends. Ceal was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, belonging to the Christian Mothers and volunteering for many parish events. She was civic minded, serving on the Cabrini Credit Union Board of Directors and volunteering to work Allen Park elections. Dick and Ceal were happily married for 32 years until Dick sadly passed away in 1977.

Following Dick’s death, Ceal went to work at Henry Ford Hospital-Fairlane as a Client Service Rep. in the Pediatrics Clinic. After retiring, she loved to travel, bowl, golf, play Bridge and Euchre, watch the Tigers and her favorite, Notre Dame football games. She remained an active volunteer in events at Cabrini Parish and attended Mass daily until disease and frailty made that impossible. Vascular dementia robbed Mom of her memory but not her loving, and cheerful personality. She remained in her home cared for by her children and Aides Regina, Sandy, Patty, and the doctors and nurses from Henry Ford Hospice. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their loving care of our Mom.

Ceal was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings and their spouses, her beloved husband Richard, much loved son Timothy and son-in-law Hubert Wilson. She is survived by her devoted children and their spouses, Matthew Caulfield, Ann & Mike Cook, Michael & Celeste Caulfield, Mary Wilson, and her sister-in-law Constance Riney. She was the proud Grandmother of Brian & Sarah Caulfield, Bianca Caulfield, Natalie Hamade, and Valerie Widener, Great-Grandma to Camden and Colson Caulfield, Marcus and Isabella Hamade, and Great-great Grandma to  Everleigh and Rosaleigh Hamade. She will be greatly missed by her family, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Cecilia will lie In State at Weise Funeral Home, 7210 Park, Allen Park on Friday Nov. 15 from 2:00pm - 8:00pm. A rosary service will take place at the funeral home beginning at 5 pm. A Mass of remembrance will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 10:00am (In state from 9:30am) at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 9000 Laurence (at Wick), Allen Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cecilia’s memory to the Father Clare Murphy Scholarship Fund at St. Frances Cabrini Parish.
