Loretta G. Hofmann

Loretta Gertrude Hofmann, 103, of Charlotte, formerly of Allen Park, MI, died peacefully at Sensations Memory Care on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Loretta was born April 17, 1911 in Delphos, OH, the daughter of Bernard and Josephine (Goebel) Geise. Loretta married Hubert Baxter in April of 1934 and the two moved to Detroit, MI, where they started their family. Hubert passed away in 1972, after which Loretta continued to work as secretary for several years at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Allen Park. In 1979, she retired and married Joseph “Jake” Hofmann. After Jake died four years later, she continued on her own as a strong, independent German woman, caring for her family and friends. She loved playing cards and traveling, especially by car. Loretta lived on her own until 2011 and moved to Sensations in Charlotte in 2012 at the age of 101.

Loretta is survived by her children; Ralph (Barbara) Baxter of North East, MD, Carol (Leon) Monroe of Charlotte, MI, Mary Jane Farrer of Jackson, WY, and James (Rose) Baxter of Southfield, MI; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Joan Geise of Delphos, OH. She was predeceased by her first husband, Hubert Baxter and her second husband, Joseph “Jake” Hofmann; her brothers, William and Hubert Geise; and her infant twin daughters.

Visitation Friday 6 - 8 pm at Weise Funeral Home, 7210 Park Ave., Allen Park, MI 48101. (313)382-1150. Rosary Service at 7:15 pm. In State Saturday 10 am until time of Mass 11 am at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 9000 Laurence (at Wick), Allen Park. Interment Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Brownstown Twp., MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Clothing and Furniture Center, House of Ruth or charity of choice.
