Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Lloyd G. Combe passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Lloyd’s life was a story of devotion, hard work, laughter, and love. A graduate of Mackenzie High School, at just 15 years old, he met the love of his life, Maria—a meeting that grew into 65 beautiful years of marriage rooted in faith and joy. Together, they built a home filled with laughter and love, finding their greatest blessings in their two daughters, Cindy and Mary Jo. Lloyd proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His deep patriotism and love for America remained evident throughout his life. Upon his return from service, he attended Retz Electronic School. An early riser through and through, Lloyd could always be found at a local coffee shop before sunrise, swapping stories, sharing laughs, and enjoying a steaming cup with friends. On cherished mornings, his daughters and grandson joined him, creating precious memories over quiet, heartfelt conversations before the day began. A true family man, Lloyd’s love for his family knew no bounds. He treasured vacations, Mud Hen games, fishing trips, and hunting outings—especially with his brother-in-law, Paul. His long career as an industrial oil salesman took him across Michigan, where he was known for his quick wit, kind heart, and natural gift for connecting with others. Wherever he went, Lloyd left warmth, laughter, and genuine friendship behind. Those who knew Lloyd will remember his humor, generosity, and unwavering faith. He lived fully, loved unconditionally, and set an enduring example of kindness, loyalty, and compassion. His spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone blessed to know him. Lloyd will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Maria; his beloved daughters, the late Cindy (Tim) Murphy and Mary Jo (Jim) Switaj; and his brother, the late Charles Combe. He is also remembered by his dear sister-in-law, Sharon Rodman, and his late brother-in-law, Paul Rodman. He was the cherished grandfather of Katie (Joe) Williams, Jimmy (Shannon) Murphy, and Eddie Switaj; and the proud great-grandfather of Louis Lloyd, Gianna Rose, and Baby Murphy. Lloyd was a loving Godfather to Deanna (Joe) Cortese and Michael Rodman, and a caring great-uncle to Hannah and Izzy Cortese. Lloyd will be fondly remembered by many relatives and friends who loved him deeply.
Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, 18303 Allen Road, Brownstown, MI 48193, on Tuesday, April 7. The gathering will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by Mass at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Lloyd to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or honor his kind spirit with a random act of kindness—a beautiful way to carry forward the love and goodness he shared so freely.
