John Michael Hill, 67, October 7, 1952 - February 5, 2020
John Michael Hill, ‘Mike’, passed away Wednesday February 5th, 2020 following complications from cancer. He was the beloved son of the late George Paul and Velma Hill. He will be dearly missed by his wife Susan (Fernelius) Hill of 40 years, and was the loving father to daughters Jennifer Soule-Hill (Nathan) and Jessica Hill Riggs (Jason), and a dear grandfather to Desmond and Simeon Soule-Hill. Mike is also survived by his sister Paula Hill Smith, nephews Brad Smith and Ben (Maribell) Smith, nieces Stephanie (Chad) Welch, Laura Hayward, sister-in-law Carol Hayward, great uncle to Emerson Smith, and a great friend Ralph (Linette) Kaczmarczyk.
Mike was born in Montpelier, Ohio, in 1952. As part of a railroad family, he moved many times, living in Montpelier, OH; Peru, Indiana; Ferguson, Missouri; Moberly, MO; St. Louis, MO; and Allen Park, Michigan. He graduated from Allen Park High School in 1971, Michigan State University’s Honors College in 1975, and the University of Detroit Law School in 1978. He was in the private practice of law for over 40 years in the Downriver area, the proud owner of J. Michael Hill and Associates, Attorneys and Counselors at Law, P.C. He dedicated his work to helping those in need and found tremendous satisfaction in the challenges of law and legal proceedings.
He was devoted to his family and loved family gatherings and holiday get-togethers.
Mike loved his dogs- Bentley, Kyllie, Oliver, Prince, and Tag. He loved good food, good books, and was a proud MSU Spartan. He was himself an excellent cook, an avid reader, writer, and storyteller. He was intelligent, sharp-witted, practical, and humorous. He was a faithful leader of the Allen Park Presbyterian Church and enjoyed his trips to summer church camp at Camp Wakanda. His roar of laughter was infectious and entertaining to all. Among many favorite past times were attending MSU Spartan football games, playing chess, studying genealogy, golfing, playing team trivia, walking his dogs, and vacationing at the beach. He was a friend to all who crossed his path, how grand it was to know and love him.
Visitation at the Weise Funeral Home will be on Friday March 13th, from 4-8pm. A Memorial Service will be at the Allen Park Presbyterian Church on Saturday March 14th, at 1pm, followed by a Celebration of Life Open House at Mike’s favorite place, his Law Office at 7340 Park Avenue, Allen Park, MI. He will be quietly laid to rest thereafter. Charitable contributions may be made to the Allen Park Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
