Joan M. Vrabel

Joan Vrabel, age 93, of Allen Park, Michigan, passed away on August 25, 2026. She was born on January 21, 1933, in Hamilton, Ohio.

Beloved wife of the late Frank J. Vrabel. Loving sister of Eugene Beer (the late Helen). Dear cousin of Karen Robinson, late Kathleen Beer and the late Peggy Beer. Aunt of Vivian Egan (Tom), Frank Beer, the late Lawrence Beer, Joan Bender (Dave), and Leo Beer (Deb).

Joan shared a very special bond with Adriana Kavalcova, who lovingly called her Teta. Joan and Frank first welcomed Adriana into their lives as a 16-year-old exchange student, beginning a beautiful relationship that grew into family. Over the years, Adriana became the daughter Joan never had.

Joan was a dedicated teacher and a devoted Catholic whose faith guided her throughout her life. She had a generous heart and a genuine desire to help others, supporting many charities and causes that were important to her and Frank. Her generosity was also reflected in the things she lovingly made for others. She was known for her beautiful cross-stitch pictures and crocheted blankets, which she often gave as gifts. There was almost always homemade soup to share and a tin of freshly baked cookies waiting for visitors. She especially loved remembering people's favorite cookies, baking them just for them, and making sure they had some to take home.

Those who knew Joan will remember her quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and unmistakable sarcastic streak. She loved to laugh and had a way of making those around her laugh right along with her. Her warmth came naturally, and she had a special way of making people feel welcomed, included, and at ease.

Joan treasured the many friendships she made throughout her life, including the lifelong friendship of Pat Durjo. She was especially blessed by the dear friends and neighbors who became an important part of her life, sharing countless conversations, visits, laughter, and companionship with her over the years. In more recent years, Joan also found friendship and companionship at Maple Heights, where she especially enjoyed playing euchre with her group of friends.

Joan was also blessed with the longtime friendship of John Bernard, a trusted friend and advisor to Joan and Frank for more than 40 years.

Joan will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, her dear friends and neighbors, her extended family in Slovakia, and all those who knew and loved her.

Funeral Mass 10:00am Monday, August 31, 2026 (In state at church from 9:30am) at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 9000 Laurence (at Wick), Allen Park.
