Mr. James Totten, a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on October 11, 2014, nearly 2 years after losing his beloved wife of 63 years, Geraldine, following her long illness. A life-long resident of Lincoln Park, Mr. Totten was a graduate of St. Henry’s School and Lincoln Park High School. Enlisting during WWII, Mr. Totten was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces where he served as an aircraft mechanic at Westover Field in Massachusetts and later became a bricklayer. He left the building industry in the 1960’s to become a Tool & Die template maker but returned to part-time masonary work after his retirement. In later years, he delighted in tinkering with and rebuilding engines for his 1959 Chevy Corvette and was an avid reader, bowler, golfer, and devoted fan of the Detroit Lions. Mr. Totten and his wife raised their three children to be thoughtful, independent, and caring citizens and thoroughly enjoyed the exploits of his children, grandchildren, and new great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, and his brother, Robert Totten. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Hackett; son Jim and his wife Marilyn; daughter Cathi and her husband Ron Carmany; daughter Annette and her partner Kathy Day; grandson Brian, his wife Laura, and their son Nash Carmany; grandson Stephen Totten; and brother-in-law Willard Schafer.
The family will receive visitors at the Weise Funeral Home at 7210 Park Avenue in Allen Park from 5 until 8PM on Wednesday, October 15th. Mr. Totten wll lie In State Thursday 10:00 am until time of Mass 10:30 am at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 9000 Laurence (at Wick), Allen Park. Interment Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marywood Nursing Care Center at 36975 Five Mile Road in Livonia, 48154.
