James Allen Bunting Jr. of Wyandotte, Michigan passed away on March 10, 2019 after a short but intense battle with pancreatic cancer. He left this life peacefully with his loving wife of 20 years, Jan Holmes Bunting, by his side. James was born in Detroit on February 25, 1958. James leaves behind 2 brothers; Steven Bunting, niece Lizzie, and Andrew (Melissa) Bunting, niece Maddie, nephews Alex, Max Skwirsk and Lucas Skwirsk; and sister Ellen (Ken Schwartz) Bunting, nephews Jason and Andrew Schwartz. James is the brother-in law and uncle to Julie (Pat) Sweeny, niece Bridget (Alan) Harper, nephew Tim (Kelly) Sweeny; David (Sandy) Holmes, nieces Danielle (Nick) Kamar and Kelly Holmes, nephew Christopher Holmes; Dan (Mary) Holmes, nephew Nickolas Holmes, nieces Emma and Kelsey Holmes; Micky (Scott) Brittingham; Stephen Holmes and Kate Holmes.
James was preceded in death by his father James Allen Bunting Sr. (1993) and mother Evelyn Young Bunting (2008).
James was raised in Farmington, MI where he made life-long friends through his time at Ferris State and Oakland University. James was an enthusiastic Formula One racing fan, his work with racing teams and high-performance engines brought great satisfaction in his professional life. In his teens, he was disassembling and reassembling anything that ran on gasoline. James enjoyed the competition and excitement offered by car vs car and team vs team. His passion evolved to a career whose work through many years included organizations both big and small that specialized in engine building and development for various motorsports series and teams. Some of these included Booth Arons, Katech and McLaren. Over the past few years, Jim would trek northward to assist and lend expertise at at Mid-Michigan short track, Silver Bullet Speedway, where nighttime races provided thrills for the locals. His most recent employer, Cap Collot and Tool Co, formed a core of caring colleagues and friends.
James was a dog lover and doted on his ‘girls’, Josi and Rubi – two-year-old labradoodles who add so much joy to his family. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in James’ name to Leader Dogs for the Blind .

A memorial service will be held 10:00am Saturday, May 25, 2019 at St Vincent Pallotti Parish St. Joseph Church, 344 Elm, Wyandotte.
