Irene Maxine Wygonik

April 4, 1922 — May 17, 2020

Age 98. Beloved mother of Mark (Pamela Gilbert) Wygonik. Dear grandmother of Evan Zalewski and Noah Zalewski. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Wygonik; her sisters Angela Bauman, Agnes Kolinda, Dorthy Kwasniewski, Lorraine Kaczor and Jane Smith; brothers John, Edward, Gerald and Victor Kwasniewski.

Irene was a long time resident of Allen Park, Michigan, moving there in 1953.  She attended St. Frances Cabrini Church and worked for Manufacturer's National Bank for many years.  She had many friends and a large, loving extended family.  She and her husband Raymond moved to Virginia in 2014 to be nearer their son, Mark.  There were many happy adventures until Ray's passing in 2015.  From that point, Irene was a frequent guest with Mark and his family on shopping trips, lunch outings and holiday celebrations.  Irene enjoyed visits from relatives traveling through the area and the occasional visit back to Michigan.  Of course Irene made many new friends in Virginia and took advantage of all of the activities at her assisted living community.  Her passing and the loss it leaves, is felt by many.

In lieu of flowers, our family suggests making a donation to the Amy Elizabeth Lauth Charitable Foundation in the name of Irene Wygonik.

  • The owners of Tall Oaks Assisted Living, the community where Irene has resided for the past 5+ years, started a charitable foundation in the name of the daughter they lost in the late 1990's. The owners and staff of Tall Oaks were very kind and generous to Irene. The staff grew to be part of Irene's extended family and helped her with the daily challenges of her life as her needs increased. This foundation provides support to low-income women, children, and the disabled and has provided help to many Tall Oaks staff members over the years.
