Irene D. Furgerson

Irene Dorothy Furgerson (Petras) 91, went to be with the Lord on April 28 ^th , 2020 in Allen Park, Michigan. Irene was born on October 28, 1928 to John and Vera Anna (Gnandt) Petras. She married Cleatus Leon Furgerson on June 23, 1956, and raised four children in Allen Park. Brenda Brooks, Bonnie Gennaro (William), Bryan Furgerson (Joannie), and Bridget Sherwood (Terry). Irene was always involved with her children’s activities. She was lunch Mom, Girl Scout Leader, and volunteered often at her church. She made beautiful birthday and wedding cakes, was a wonderful seam stress and an excellent cook (she was Hungarian after all). In the summer, you would find her caring for her roses or relaxing on her porch swing and she was always singing or humming. She was very active until recent years when she enjoyed working on puzzles. She received such joy from making others happy and her smile was so gentle. Irene loved her family and always made holidays special by carrying on many traditions. She loved babies and never turned down an opportunity to babysit one of her Grandchildren, she was their biggest fan, encouraging, supporting, and cheering them on. She was known as Mema to Her Grandchildren; Wesley (Dana) Brooks, Chelsea Brooks, Chloe Brooks, Samuel Brooks, Matthew (Sandy) Gennaro, Tyler Gennaro, Dylan Gennaro, Abby Gennaro, Bradley Furgerson, Nicole (Anthony) Dunlap, Jamie (Emmanuel) Najor, and Jacklyn Furgerson. Great Grandchildren are Kiley, Lexi, Jack, Carson, Preston, and Emory. Preceding Irene on their journey is her husband of 46 years who passed on December 19 ^th , 2002, four sisters Mary (Clarence) Kaltz , Bette (Andrew) Lakatos, Emma (John) Longwell, Helen (Charles) Grill, and one brother, John Petras. Her memory is cherished by surviving siblings; Margaret (George) Ross, Ruth Rosenberg, Steve (Noreen) Petras, Joseph (Laurie) Petras, and many nieces and nephews. Her joy, light, compassion, and smile will be missed by all. She was loved!
