Helen T. Mac

Helen Theresa Mac, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2021.

Helen was born in Detroit, MI to Jacob and Sophie Zyla on December 16, 1923. She graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit, MI. During World War II she worked on military equipment at the Desoto Factory to support the war effort. She was a homemaker for her family at their home in Allen Park, MI and later in life worked as a custodian for the Allen Park-Melvindale School District.

Family and friends knew her as Helen, Mom, Grandma, and Busia (her favorite). She loved spending time with her grandchildren, hanging out with her sisters Jinx and Cel, basking in the sun, sewing, bowling, playing pinochle, listening and dancing to polkas, watching scary movies, and occasionally having a ginger brandy while watching a Red Wing hockey game.

She is predeceased by her husbands Albert “Babe” Dryovage and Joseph Mac and her seven siblings; John Zyla, Stella Homeszyn, Anthony “Tony” Zyla, Karol “Charles” Zyla, Eugenia “Jinx” Romanick, Joseph Zyla and Cecilia “Cel” Macek.

She is survived by her children Donna (Daniel) Koszewski, Debbie (Wally) Bizon, Donald Mac, and David (Susan) Mac; her grandchildren Denise (Bob) Austin, Dennis Koszewski, Danette Koszewski, Becky Bizon, Michael Bizon, Jack Mac, Lisa Mac, Scott Mac, Tracy Mac, Tessa (Woodrow Holder) Mac, Jason Mac, and Noah Mac; and her great-grandchildren Frank Austin, Amanda Austin, Tabitha Mac, Evie Mac, Silas Holder, and Pepper Holder; her brother-in-law Richard Macek; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A family viewing will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 2:00-3:00 PM and a general viewing from 3:00-8:00 PM at the Weise Funeral Home at 7210 Park Avenue, Allen Park, MI 48101. Rosary Service Thursday Evening at 7:15pm

Funeral Service 10:00am Friday, May 14 (In state from 9:30am) at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 9000 Laurence, Allen Park.

Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
