Hector Salazar

Hector was born the 5th child of 7 to Juan and Gonzala Salazar in Laredo, Texas.  He enjoyed a wonderful childhood.  He often reminisced about the fun he had playing marbles, reading comic books, enjoying all the fruit from the trees his mother had on the property and entertaining the neighbors with the music he and his brother Juan would preform for them.  He was a self taught guitar player.

In his late teens his father became ill at a young age and was unable to work which was the catalyst that led the family to Detroit for better healthcare for his father and for work.  

At the age of 18, he got a job at Ford Motor Company and retired after 30 years.  He then started a new career as a maintenance man for St. Vincent Middle School in Detroit and at local doctor's offices.  He truly became Mr. Fixit.  

Hector was married to Marguerite Bird for 43 years before her passing in 2002.  He previously had 2 children and together they had 1 daughter.  

Hector lived a quiet, simple life that was largely fulfilled by his love for his family.  Through his steady guidance and presence, he watched with pride as his family grew and thrived.

He always looked forward to attending his grandson's sporting events and applauded all of their accomplishments.  He held these memories dear to his heart.

He spent his later years visiting his siblings regularly until they passed away.  

By the end of his life, he was ready to join his loved ones who left this world before him.  

Surely he was received in their open arms along whit the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He passed away peacefully with his daughter and son-in-law at his side.  

He will always be remembered for his love for and dedication to his family, his kindness, generosity, love of music and his beautiful smile.

Hector was preceded in death by his son John Richard Presnell.  He is survived by his children, Lisa (John) Victor and Linda (John Jr.) Bellow; his grandchildren, Justin (Marci) Victor, Jonathan (Lindsay) Victor, Tarrah (Scott) DeLong, John Bellew III and Kellie (Daryl) England. Hector is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, his dear friend Chris Schauppner and many nieces and nephews.  

A Funeral Mass will  be held  at 10:00am Friday, September 25, 2026 (In state at church from 9:30am) at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 9000 Laurence (at Wick), Allen Park.

Interment Our Lady of Hope Cemetery.
