Gladys Coats

Gladys Coats, a beloved educator and administrator at St. Frances Cabrini Middle School, passed away on June 28, 2018. She was 90 years old.

Mrs. Coats was born on October 5, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, to Andrew and Mary Baszczuk. Robert Coats, Gladys’ husband, preceded her in death. She is survived by sons, Robert, and his wife, Leslie, William, and his wife, Desiree, John, and his wife, Dulce, and son James, and his wife, Natasha. Gladys was also the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren and great grandmother of 6.

Gladys was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish for many years. She began her career at Cabrini as a substitute teacher and taught fourth, sixth and eighth grades throughout her tenure.  She retired in 2010 after 46 years of service to Cabrini Schools. She also began the Honors Math program in 1985.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Parish, 9000 Laurence Ave., Allen Park, MI 48101. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Fr. Clare Murphy Scholarship Fund or to St. Frances Cabrini Debt Reduction Fund.
