George Paul Hill

July 8, 1923 — April 2, 2013

With faith in the resurrection, we announce the death of George Paul Hill on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the age of 89, at The Bellaire Senior Living residence in Riverview, Michigan. Paul was born on July 8, 1923, in Monroe City, Missouri. His parents were Clinton Lockhart Hill and Hazel Maude Davis Hill. He was the beloved husband of the late Velma Marie Goon Hill who died on April 11, 2012, celebrating 68 years of marriage on April 5, 2012. He was the dear father of Paula Smith and J. Michael Hill (Susan), and the loving grandfather to Bradley Smith, Benjamin Smith, Stephanie Smith, Jessica Hill, Jennifer Soule-Hill (Nathan) and great-grandfather of Desmond Soule-Hill.

Paul graduated from Macon High School in Macon, Missouri, in 1941. He worked in many capacities over his 48-year railroad career with the Katy, Wabash, Norfolk & Western, Norfolk & Southern railroads ending as Manager of Automotive Transportation in Dearborn, Michigan, with his retirement in 1986. In 1944 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Transportation Corp., Railroad Battalion, in France and Germany until his discharge in 1946.

Paul loved his family dearly and was a good friend to many. He kept in touch with his World War II buddies and his railroad career friends. He was an active member of the Allen Park Presbyterian Church and served in many positions there from 1972 until the present time. He loved gardening, fishing, golfing and especially going to Senior Camp at Camp Wakanda. All of his life he was an avid collector of coins and stamps, and along with other newspapers, he read The Wall Street Journal cover-to-cover daily. He lived in the Bellaire Senior Living residence for the last year until his death.

He will be laid to rest in the Allen Park Presbyterian Church Columbarium. A memorial service is being planned for 11 AM - Friday - May 3, 2013 at the Allen Park Presbyterian Church, 7101 Park Avenue, Allen Park, MI 48101. Please keep the Hill and Smith families in your prayers.
