Clinton J. Allen Jr.
Died June 7, 2018
Born on September 27, 1919 and passed away on June 7, 2018. Clint (or Jack as he was known throughout much of his life) was preceded in death by his loving wife Genevieve in 2011 after 64 years of marriage. He is survived by his beloved sons James Allen (Geri) of Rochester, MI; John Allen of South Lyon, MI; Mark Allen (Peggy) of Lansing, MI and grand children David and Madeline Allen of Lansing, MI. Also surviving are nieces Judy Leahy, Anne Leahy and Elizabeth Patrick of Kingston, N.Y. as well as nephews James Leahy of Mountain View, CA; Thomas Leahy of Kingston, N. Y. and Richard Leahy of Colorado Springs, CO.
Clint grew up in Royal Oak, MI and was valedictorian of the class of January, 1938 at Royal Oak High School. He received a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Wayne State University and worked for the Wyandotte Chemicals Corporation (WCC) that was later purchased by BASF. At WCC, Clint had a number of roles including as Assistant to the President and later as President of the WCC Railroad.
Clint was passionate about classical music and assisted the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with fund raising and other activities. He loved traveling throughout the US and visited every state in the lower 48 and was a voracious reader, but his greatest source of joy was his family. Clint and Genevieve pinched pennies and sacrificed to ensure that their sons could get a college education and continued to save and conserve resources to help support their grand children’s college education as well. Clint loved the outdoors and shared his love of America’s wild lands by taking his family to Yellowstone, Rocky Mtn. National Park, the Smokies and many other beautiful destinations. Clint also loyally and lovingly helped Genevieve maintain relationships with her family in Kingston through yearly family vacations.
Clint spent many hours alone after Genevieve’s death in 2011. However, his loneliness was eased by special friends Kim and Jim Murphy, Michelle and Ron Haarer, and Bob and Jennifer Smith whose care and friendship over the years cannot be measured, for which Clint’s family is eternally grateful.
