It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Charles “Spud” LePage, a devoted husband, loving father, proud “Papa”, great grandfather, and dear friend. At 101, he passed away peacefully, at his home of almost 77 years, on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Charles was the Beloved husband of the late Ruth M. LePage. Adored father of Charlene (Steven) Partlow. Treasured grandfather of the late Jennifer Schaffer, Sarah (Daniel) Luna, Adam (Meredith) Schaffer, Rachel (Sean) Lafferty, Mattesyn (Richard) Finley, Lisa (Jeffrey) Czentnar, Jason Partlow, and Michael Partlow. Dear great grandfather of Jacob, Isabella, Molly, Maxyne, Alexander, Addison, Draven, Nova, Clover, Silas, Reese, and Josie. He is survived by his brother, James LePage and many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters, and four brothers as well as his loving companion of 20 years, Sharon Booth. At 18 years old in 1941, Charles tried to enlist in the military but was denied enlistment due to his Canadian citizenship. Charles was later drafted into the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from April 5th, 1943, until his honorable discharge on Nov 7th, 1945. During this time, he became a proud American citizen, he was stationed in Italy serving as an airplane maintenance technician to P-47 Thunderbolt’s during multiple battle campaigns (Rome Arno, North Apennines, PO Valley, Southern France, Normandy). Charles held the ranking of Staff Sergeant for the 64th Fighter Squadron, 57th Fighter Group. He received multiple medals including Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Service Medal, and Two Oversees Service Bars. Charles had a lifelong passion for learning. He had a love for religion and history. He would read the World Book Encyclopedia over and over and was extremely well versed in the Bible. With his gift of gab, quick wit and exceptional memory, he owned a room. His captivating stories about his military deployment during World War II, the love of his life Ruth, his career in Tool and Die would keep you on the edge of your seat for hours. His role as a caregiver to his wife, Ruth, was a testament to his unwavering devotion and selflessness. His legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures. Charles cherished his close-knit Allen Park community on Jonas Avenue, and the family is especially grateful to Anne and Mike Wisusik, Pat Hall, Cori Taylor and family, and Jamie Curry for their decades of unwavering support and friendship. Charles’ wish to remain at home would not have been possible without the tireless and selfless love, friendship, and care provided by Sherry and Anthony Stuart and family for over a year. With a heart full of gratitude, we thank you for the comfort and peace you provided our father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Charles held many charities close to his heart and was faithful in donating.
